Since 1989, Brown University has sponsored a Mid-Year Completion Celebration in December for Brown students expecting to complete degree requirements at that time. Usually scheduled on the first Saturday in December, the celebration provides students an opportunity to celebrate their achievements with family and friends in an intimate, relaxed setting. The Dean of the College presides over the ceremony; the reception following the ceremony is hosted by President Ruth Simmons.

Students completing their degree requirements mid-year are issued their diplomas in May of the following calendar year. They may attend the May commencement preceding the December of their degree completion or the May commencement after the December of their completion.

To be assured of inclusion in Commencement activities in a preceding May, students with an estimated completion date of December should contact the Commencement Office in Nicholson House, 71 George Street (863-2474).
