Internships, Fellowships, and Research
Undergraduate Research
Many top-notch faculty aspire to teach at Brown because of their desire to work with excellent students both in and out of the classroom. This is nowhere more evident than in the many opportunities for Brown undergraduates to partner with faculty on research projects.
The University sponsors a number of programs that are designed to facilitate faculty-student research collaborations and that provide students with monetary support to participate in research with faculty. First-year students interested in collaborative research projects are encouraged to consult with faculty, academic deans, and administrative staff to learn about the many options available.
Fellowships
The Office of the Dean of the College helps undergraduates and recent alums with all aspects of the fellowship process—from finding the fellowships that match their interests and goals, to working on drafts of the application essays, to practicing for interviews with faculty committees.
The Office of the Dean of the College offers advising and support for nationally competitive awards that require institutional endorsement, as well as internal awards for graduate school, independent study abroad, and academic/professional internship opportunities. While most of these opportunities are for graduating seniors and recent alumni, several important fellowships are for sophomores and juniors such as the Beinecke, Goldwater, Truman, and Udall. Contact Dean Linda Dunleavy for more information.
The Office of the Dean of the College has a number of fellowships to support summer employment and academic research. The Career Development Center has information on funding for unpaid internships and the UTRA program and several Swearer Center Fellowships provide many opportunities for summer funding for independent research.
