What is Green Events?
Green Events is a student-driven initiative to promote and facilitate sustainable event planning at Brown University. We're supporting the growth of Brown's environmentally friendly culture by making it easy to adopt eco-conscious practices. Green Event Certification is a simple framework for reducing waste, lowering our carbon footprint, supporting local businesses, and educating consumers. Green Events is supported by the Office of Energy and the Environment in the Department of Facilities Management.

To start the Green Certification process you should request a consultation in the early stages of event planning.
At your initial 20-minute meeting, a Green Event Consultant will walk you through a detailed checklist of goals for minimizing waste and reducing your event's carbon footprint. Every event is different, so your consultant will work with you to come up with a plan of action that is tailored to your event. Together you'll determine the certification rating (silver, gold, platinum) your event can achieve.
The Green Events team will be available to you for the rest of your event planning process and will send you promotional materials for your event advertisements.
After your event, your certification rating (silver, gold, or platinum) will be determined by the Green Events team. Below is a summary of the minimum requirements for certification. The Green Events team uses this framework as a guideline, and will reward those who make an extra effort to reduce their event's environmental impact.
