Join us for a discussion between novelist Rana Dasgupta, political scientist Ashutosh Varshney, and Jonathan Shainin, news editor at The New Yorker and previously senior editor at the Delhi-based narrative journalism magazine The Caravan. Dasgupta, currently a Visiting Lecturer with the Modern Culture and Media department, is the award-winning author of the novels Solo and Tokyo Cancelled. His upcoming nonfiction work Capital: The Eruption of Delhi examines the rise of the city’s global elite. Ashutosh Varshney, director of the Initiative, released Battles Half Won: India’s Improbable Democracy last month, a collection of essays that analyze the deepening of Indian democracy since 1947 and the challenges this has created.
