As prescribed in the Brown Charter of 1764, responsibility for selection of the President of the University rests with the Corporation, the University’s governing board. However, successful fulfillment of that responsibility requires an inclusive process, active communication with, and engagement by alumni, faculty, students, and staff. The Corporation is fully committed to that principle.
Consistent with Brown’s custom and tradition in selecting a president over the past several decades, a Presidential Search Committee of the Corporation will be aided and advised by a Campus Advisory Committee, comprised of faculty, students and staff representatives. The membership of both committees is available on this site.
The committees will be supported by the search firm of Spencer Stuart. The Spencer Stuart team is led by Jennifer Bol, the head of the firm’s global Education, Nonprofit & Government Practice. Jennifer is assisted by Michelle Haertel, who is a leader of Spencer Stuart’s Academic Practice.
Members of both committees and the search firm will be actively engaged in seeking input and engagement from the community regarding the opportunities and challenges facing Brown and the qualities of leadership we should be seeking in our next president. The committees welcome your questions, comments, suggestions, and nominations of candidates at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
