Dan Bacher '13 helps a brain stem stroke patient use a new computer that will allow her to communicate with others by typing out words and sentences. This is part of his work for his nonprofit, SpeakYourMind Foundation Inc. He launched the organization last year to create better, less expensive communication tools for people with degenerative neurological diseases. Bacher worked as a research engineer with BrainGate, the collaboration between Brown and other academic institutions that have helped pioneer an experimental brain implant. He still collaborates part time with Brown students on his nonprofit. More.
