Travel Writing in Pont-Aven, France

Pont-Aven, France

Brown University Presents:

Travel Writing in France—July 4-12, 2009

Travel to Pont-Aven and Paris, France for an intensive workshop in Travel Writing. The immersion setting and individual attention from the instructor make this an ideal opportunity for students to enjoy an international learning experience in summer 2009.

This non-juried program will provide participants with a wealth of opportunities to begin new projects and to explore topics with a fresh perspective. Faculty member Catherine Watson will facilitate the writers’ experience of writing on travel as a traveler by engaging the cultures and sites of Pont-Aven and Paris. Beginning and experienced writers are welcome.

Participants in "Travel Writing in France" will arrive with Brown undergraduates participating in a visual arts program at the Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art (PASCA). Although the curricula will be different, some activities will involve both the writing students and those in the painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture programs to ensure all participants full access to the resources of Brown in Brittany.

"Travel Writing in France" begins with transportation from Paris to Pont-Aven on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Full orientation to the village and the program is on Sunday, followed by four full days and evenings in Pont-Aven. On Friday morning, writers depart Pont-Aven for Paris. There, the program concludes with a book reading and optional writers’ walking tours of Paris.

The program ends on Sunday, July 12, 2009 with transportation provided to Charles deGaulle airport.
