SPARK provides talented 7th and 8th grade students with the ideas, resources, and tools they need to nurture their academic gifts in the sciences.

SPARK nurtures students' love of science in a fun, challenging but noncompetitive environment. SPARK courses are specially created to expose students to the intellectual concepts underlying familiar science topics that are part of the
their world.

SPARK brings together students with similar abilities and diverse backgrounds to grow as individuals in an environment that's safe, challenging, and most of all, fun.

Students take one course per session. All students who successfully complete their course will receive a certificate of completion.

Eligibility: The SPARK Program is open to students currently in the 7th or 8th grade, who demonstrate an interest and ability in the sciences.

The SPARK Experience:

  • Introduction to complex scientific topics in a manner appropriate for an advanced middle school student
  • Learning the relevance of science to everyday life
  • Hands-on scientific experimentation
  • Thinking as scientists – asking sound scientific questions, and learning that new questions often arise

Supervision in the SPARK Program

A highly trained and dedicated residential staff supervises SPARK students day and night for the duration of the program. SPARK students live in Brown’s residence halls within walking distance of classrooms and dining halls, and eat meals together in one of Brown’s dining halls.
