Enrich Your Undergraduate Experience
Summer Housing
On-campus housing for the Undergraduate Summer Session will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis for students enrolled in Summer school courses. Undergraduate Summer Session Housing will begin on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 12 noon and end on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 12 noon. We anticipate housing to be in Young Orchard Apartments which are configured as four single-bedrooms with a shared kitchen, bathroom and a common room. Housing is subject to change.
Check In
Students who need on-campus housing for the summer session are required to check-in at the Office of Residential Life (27 Brown Street, in South Wayland House) on Sunday, June 21 between 12:00 p.m. to– 6:00 p.m. Students will receive a room assignment , room key, and card access when they check-in. Rooms are assigned on a first-come basis. Note: no room requests will be considered prior to check-in. During check-in all students who wish to live together should plan to arrive at the same time and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Students who are unable to check-in on Sunday can pick up keys on Monday, June 22 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or on Tuesday, June 23th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Office of Residential Life.
Check-Out
All students are required to check out of their rooms on Saturday, August 8, 2009. The residence halls close at 12:00 noon.
Health Services
Health Services is open for summer program participants from 8:30am to 4:00pm for administrative needs and 9:30-3:30 for medical appointments. Health Services is located in Andrews House on the corner of Brown and Charlesfield Streets. Phone 3-3953 (863-3953 for off-campus phones). Situations involving medical attention after business hours are referred to local area hospitals. For more information visit the Health Services website
Disability Support Services
Brown offers a range of services and accommodations to assist students with disabilities. Upon acceptance into the program, students seeking assistance should submit a Medical and Disability Accommodation Form to begin the registration process.When we receive a completed form, a representative of the Disabilities Support Services Office will contact the student. We recommend that students contact us well in advance of their arrival on campus to allow sufficient time for accommodations to be arranged.
Lost & Found
The major lost and found location on campus during the summer session is the Department of Public Safety (401-863-1663). Items of value left behind in residence halls such as jewelry, money, and laptop computers will be turned into the Office of Summer & Continuing Studies (401-863-7900). If you find a lost item on campus, please turn it in to the Public Safety Communications Center in the Faunce Arch (Waterman Street side).
Personal & Community Safety
Brown University Public Safety personnel are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department is composed of more than 70 men and women, including police officers, security officers, communications control officers, and building guards. Brown University Public Safety routinely patrol the campus and surrounding Providence neighborhoods in cars, bikes, and foot patrols. Of the University personnel involved in providing police and security services, approximately 25 are commissioned police officers, authorized by the state of Rhode Island to enforce its laws.
Residence Hall Security
All residence hall entrances are locked 24 hours a day and can only be accessed with an authorized I.D. card. All residence halls and classroom buildings have an emergency blue-light phone at each entrance. Students can call anywhere on campus, dial 911 for emergencies, or call the Department of Public Safety for assistance www.brown.edu/Administration/Public_Safety
Emergencies
Brown University emergency service (Police, Medical and Fire) is available 24 hours a day to students and their families by phoning 401-863-4111 (emergencies), 401-863-3322 (routine business). There is an Administrator On-Call 24 hours a day to support anyone who is affiliated with Brown during the summer session.
