Some Additional Considerations

Site Management
So you can access your web pages, now what? You need to make some decisions. How are you going to do the updating? Are you going to learn HTML and write all the code yourself or will you learn Dreamweaver? Dreamweaver is an HTML editor that writes all the code for you. This whole site was written using Dreamweaver. It is available for free on the Application Server and CIS Training does offer classes on how to use it.

Images
Most people like to put images and photos into their web pages to make them more attractive. Your safest bet for graphics is to always either create or photograph the image yourself. Never simply copy an image from the web and use it on your web site without the owner's permission. A Brown Image Gallery does exist for your use, and it is growing and being updated constantly. Find the images in our Gallery.

Use This Site
This site can be an excellent resource for you. The toolkit has things for you like a page counter, explanation on how to password protect web pages, a random image generator and much more! The Publishing Help section has information for you from start to finish. Use the "creating pages" section to read more about HTML vs XHTML, what meta tags are for, using cascading style sheets and server side includes and webmaster's best practices. The whole section is a wealth of knowledge. Come to publisher forums. Many campus webmasters meet the first Tuesday of each month on the 2nd floor of the CIT at noon and discuss current issues. Click the Publisher Forum button to find out the next topic. You can also learn more about the policies regarding web use and additional topics in information security.
