How do I get a database?

Brown has a MySQL database server and does allow Brown's web publishers to use it and have a database for projects. However, this comes with a disclaimer. The database server is completely unsupported. If you don't know what you're doing, don't ask for a database, because you won't find anyone to help you, there are no classes offered with Computer Education and there is no documentation for it at Brown. Secondly, the server is not totally secure. Anyone with a web publishing account at Brown could potentially access your database, read your data, copy your data, change your data and even delete your data. You don't need to make your own backups of your database, we do that here, but the point is, don't put any sensitive data in your database.

Ok, if you still want a database, send an email to webservice1@brown.edu with this information: your Brown username, first name, last name, why you need the database and what kind of information will be stored in there.
