You were just put in charge of a web site that already
exists, told to update the pages, put up new content
and keep it all current. If you've ever created a
web page, updating them is even easier. Here's what
you can do to get started.
- Get access to the web server
(How?)
- Download the Dreamweaver HTML editor
(Windows)
(Mac)
- Check out the Dreamweaver FAQ
(Where?)
- Take a class about Dreamweaver
(Where?)
- Create a "staging area"
(How?)
- Learn how to SFTP

is SFTP?)
How
and Why to Create a Staging Area
A staging area is simply a folder on the web server
where you can test your pages without your audience
being able to find them.
To create a staging area, simply create a new subfolder
in your account on the web server. Understand that
the URL to view pages in this folder will be your
normal URL with the folder name appended.
The benefit of a staging area is you can work on web
pages and test how they will actually look in browsers
on different platforms without affecting your "live"
site. Once your files are complete and look the way
you want them to, simply move them up a level into
your main folder.
