Getting a Web Account

At this point, you've determined that your web site is not on a departmental server, but that it actually is on Brown's central web server and you need to get your own account.

To get your username and password, you need to fill out the Information Provider Contract Form. Fill out the form.

You will get back an email with your username, password, URL and address of the web server. Now that you have all that information, you can connect to the web server and update your pages, or just go get a copy to work on locally. The process of getting a copy from the server or updating the page on the server is called SFTP. Check our tutorial on SFTP

Now that you've got an account, and you can access it directly, there's just a few more things to think about. Read about them next.
