HELP!!

I was previously able to make changes to my site, now I'm getting some sort of "permissions error". What happened?

This is often a problem because of an annoyance in Dreamweaver where when you upload a file using Dreamweaver, it locks the file so only you can make changes to it in the future. Someone else probably did this and now you're locked out of the file. If you're someone that knows how to use a command line client, then connect to the server, change to the directory where your files are located and then run this command: chmod 775 <your filename>

What this will do for you is change the server's file permissions so that you will be able to upload your new edited file and overwrite the old one. Just make sure you actually put the name of the file that you're trying to overwrite where it says <your filename>. This will not actually do the page updates, it will only allow you to do it. So once you run this chmod command, then try to upload the file again. It should work just fine.

If you have no idea what any of this means, then send an email to webservice1@brown.edu, with the web page URL and the file name of the file(s) you're looking to upload.
