Securely Uploading Files (Windows)

If you also share the genuine concern about people getting your web publishing username and password, your alternative is to use a secure client. The applications server has WinSCP (Secure Copy) as an alternative. Download this client from http://software.brown.edu, and here's how to use it.

Open WinSCP

Enter the host name (usually it is webpub.brown.edu).

Leave the Port Number as 22.

Enter your username.

Enter your password

Click Login

The first time you log in, you'll see a screen that says "POTENTIAL SECURITY BREACH". This screen is just telling you that WinSCP is putting a key on your computer so you can successfully connect to the server. Accept this message.

On the left side of the screen is your local computer's files, and on the right is your files on the server.

Before uploading your files, make sure the right window shows the directory you want the files to be uploaded into.

To upload files, simply drag files from the left window to the right window.

To disconnect, click on the Session menu item at the top and choose Disconnect
