CANADIAN PLAYER INFO
Three Biggest Mistakes made by Canadian Players
- WAITING TOO LONG TO BEGIN THE COLLEGE SEARCH - Because the Canadian University System timeline for application and acceptance occurs much later than for U.S. Colleges, some Canadian players have waited to send information to us until after they graduate. Please pay attention to the timeline we gave you on the previous page. It is extremely important to start early so you do not miss a potential opportunity.
- NOT TAKING TESTS ON TIME - The longer you delay in taking the SAT or ACT test, the longer you delay your recruiting process. You need those tests in order to take an official visit. Further, We only support for admission those players who have come on an official visit. It is important to take either the SAT or ACT at the end of your GRADE 11 year. Even if you do poorly, this gives you a feel for the test and allows you to take official visits in the early fall. You can retake these tests as many times as you wish and only the BEST scores will count.
- UNDERSTANDING IVY LEAGUE BENEFITS - Many Canadians are turned off by the fact that Brown, as an Ivy league school, does not offer athletically related scholarships. However, many of our Canadians (We have 11 on the 2002-03 team) find that their Aid packages from Brown met or exceeded offers they received from "Scholarship Schools," especially if they were not offered a full scholarship. Also, you must realize that there are very few FULL scholarships given out each year. Further, the benefits of Brown's Ivy League education when you graduate are immense. You have instant connections for jobs in nearly any field you would want to pursue after graduation. Some of our graduates return to Canada, some stay in the U.S. and others travel the world, but wherever you go, your Brown education will serve you well.

Other Important Information
- RECRUITING AREAS/VIDEOTAPES - We generally scout in the Toronto, ON area 2-3 times per year, Ottawa, ON once per year and Western Canada (SK, BC, AB) once per year. This is not to say that we do not go to other areas, but usually only with a player, or players, in mind. If you do not get to play in these areas often, it is important to send us a video of you playing and/or practicing. We should get this video at the latest by the end of your Grade 11 year, so that if we are interested, we can make plans to come see you play.
- PERSONAL INFORMATION - Be sure to check with your team manager to make sure that information about you and your teammates will be circulated to scouts at tournaments in which you are competing. It is very important to include in this information your YEAR OF GRADUATION, as many information sheets include only date of birth. While we do like to have date of birth, graduation year is much more important to us. Also include: an accurate jersey number, full name, phone number, e-mail address, mailing address, and parents' names. Other helpful pieces of information (but not necessarily immediately important) are: G.P.A., SAT or ACT Test Scores, Colleges/Universities Looking At, and Academic Areas of Interest.
- RECRUITING TOURNAMENTS - Below is a list of Tournaments in Canada and the U.S. that we have consistently attended and have had Canadian Teams participating. We are not guaranteeing that we will be at these tournaments every year, but for the most part we will be there.
-- Findlay Tournament (Findlay, OH - USA) - September
-- Aero's Solid Goal Preseaon Tournament (Toronto, ON) - October
-- Mississauga Holiday Tournament (Mississauga, ON) - December
-- Connecticut Polar Bears Tournament (Hartford, CT - USA) - December
-- ESSO Sr. Women's AAA Nationals (Location, TBA) - February
-- Canada Winter Games (Location, TBA) - February
-- Brampton Easter Tournament (Brampton, ON) - April
-- Ontario Midget/Intermediate Provincial Championships (ON) - April
