Alumni Reports and Testimonials

"The UTRA grant was by far the most significant factor in my intellectual/academic development at Brown (besides writing a thesis.) It gave me close and sustained contact with a professor (which I had not had before that time); she later became my thesis advisor. It gave me an opportunity to do an in-depth study of material that was not offered in many classes at that time. My UTRA grant culminated in a large paper that became the seed of my thesis, and it gave me valuable experience in independent research and writing. I can't stress enough how valuable an experience it was for me." - an alumna
"The other people in my position are either PhDs or well into their Ph.D. work. In the series of interviews I went through to get the job, my work under the UTRA continually surfaced. It showed to these potential employers that I could do research and compile a curriculum, that I could lead group discussions on sensitive topics, that I had the skills to co-facilitate a group." - an alumnus
