The John Hay Library
The Sheet Music Collection at the John Hay Library includes approximately 500,000 items, one of the largest collections in the country. Approximately 1,500 African American titles from 1850 to 1920 will be digitized and made available to the public as part of a 10-institution project of Ameritech and the Library of Congress. Many of the songs were based on the characters from Harriet Beecher Stowe's enormously popular novel Uncle Tom's Cabin.
