Brown University student's odyssey depicted in A Hope in the Unseen

A Hope in the Unseen: An American Odyssey from the Inner City to the Ivy League, by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind, chronicles the path of Cedric Jennings from his high school in inner-city Washington, D.C., to Brown University. The book tour will be launched at Brown during a Commencement Forum Saturday, May 23, and will be featured in the May-June issue of the Brown Alumni Magazine.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Hope in the Unseen: An American Odyssey from the Inner City to the Ivy League, by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind (from Broadway Books, May 27), chronicles the experiences of Cedric Jennings from his rough inner-city high school in Washington, D.C., to the halls of the Ivy League at Brown University, where he is now a junior.

A Commencement Forum titled "From the Inner City to the Ivy League" will be the first stop on the national book tour. This event will begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, in Sayles Hall located on The College Green. The featured speaker will be Ron Suskind, author and Wall St. Journal reporter. In this forum, Suskind will read from his book and discuss his experiences while writing it. Admission is free and the public is invited.

The book tour and media campaign will include appearances by Suskind and Jennings on "Oprah," "Good Morning America" and "Nightline," with reviews and excerpts in major publications such as the Wall St. Journal, USA Today, Fortune, Details, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post Book World, and Esquire. Suskind and Jennings met with the staff of the President's Initiative on Race at the White House on Friday, May 15.
