Access and press credentials for Brown’s 233rd Commencement

Editors: More than 20,000 people will visit the Brown campus for four days of reunion and activities and the University’s 233rd Commencement. To assist with crowd control and to ensure media access to any areas that are open to press, the Brown News Service will provide credentials for reporters, photographers and other media personnel.

Credentials

While most Commencement Weekend activities are open to the public, crowd-control stanchions may make access difficult, particularly on Monday morning. Brown Police and Security officers will admit persons with press credentials to any areas that are normally open to press. To arrange for credentials, send (1) your name, (2) the name of the organization you represent, (3) your telephone number, (4) your fax number, and (5) your e-mail address to the News Service, marked for Marie Rose: phone (401) 863-2476; fax (401) 863-9595; [email protected].

Credentials will be ready for pick-up at the News Service, 38 Brown Street (third floor), beginning Friday morning, May 25, and continuing throughout the weekend.

Vehicles

Many streets on or near the Brown campus will be closed or designated as one-way for portions of Commencement Weekend. Parking will be very difficult. Please call the News Service at (401) 863-24786 for information.

Assignment editors: Space for microwave trucks and other working vehicles is normally available on George Street by prior arrangement. Access is limited on Monday morning because of the Commencement procession. Please be sure to contact the News Service if you intend to send a truck.

Interviews

Speakers, guests of the University and University officials may have limited interview time available during Commencement Weekend. Please call the News Service at (401) 863-2476 for assistance. News Service staff will be available at all major events during the weekend.

The First Baptist Meeting House

Brown’s graduating class normally fills the First Baptist Meeting House to capacity. No press will be allowed to attend the undergraduate Commencement ceremony there on Monday morning. There may be limited space available for the Baccalaureate service on Sunday afternoon. Please call the News Service at (401) 863-2476 to arrange access.

Available A/V

Brown will provide video simulcasts for major events at Commencement. A multbox will be available near the stage in front of University Hall.
