PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Former senator and presidential candidate Gary Hart will give a John Hazen White Sr. Lecture on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at 4 p.m. in the Salomon Center for Teaching on The College Green. He will speak on “Restoration of the Republic.”

Hart served as Colorado’s U.S. senator from 1975 to 1987 and ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 1984. He has recently been in the news for his strong criticism of the Bush administration’s policies in Iraq, and several Democratic leaders have urged him to make another run for the presidency in 2004.

This commission performed the most comprehensive review of national security since 1947; it predicted the terrorist attacks on America and proposed a sweeping overhaul of U.S. national security structures and policies. Currently Hart is senior counsel to Coudert Brothers, a multinational law firm with offices in 19 countries. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University and graduate law and divinity degrees from Yale University. He has been a visiting lecturer at Oxford, Yale and the University of California.

The John Hazen White Sr. Lecture Series, endowed by a local businessman and sponsored by the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions at Brown University, features nationally prominent experts on political science, public opinion and public policy.
