Bell Gallery, Visual Art Department host annual student exhibition

The David Winton Bell Gallery and the Department of Visual Art will present the 23rd annual Student Exhibition from March 15 through March 30, 2003, in the List Art Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. —This year’s best student artwork will be on exhibition in the David Winton Bell Gallery March 15 through March 30, 2003. The 23rd annual Student Exhibition will be presented by the Bell Gallery and the Department of Visual Art. An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday evening, March 15, in the List Art Center. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.

The juried show is open to the work of all Brown students. Past exhibitions have included works in a wide range of media, from painting to printmaking to video installations. Each student is allowed to submit two works for evaluation by the judges.

“The exhibition provides the public with an opportunity to explore the formal and conceptual concerns that engage the student artists at Brown,” said Vesela Sretenovic, curator at the Bell Gallery.

The jurors for this year’s show are Jane Masters and Raphael Lyon ’98. Masters, born in London, is a Providence artist who has exhibited her work extensively on the East Coast and elsewhere. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at Rhode Island School of Design. Lyon is a multidisciplinary artist and activist who has been living, working and performing in Providence since his graduation from Brown. His latest works, including his sixth film, Eye of the Storm, have appeared in a variety of showcases in and beyond Rhode Island.

The Bell Gallery is located on the first floor of the List Art Center, 64 College St. It is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call (401) 863-2932.
