Brown to host 2004 Responsible Leadership Forum March 11 to 13

Brown University will host the 2004 Responsible Leadership Forum, titled “Leadership in a Changing World,” March 11 through 13, 2004. The conference will open with a keynote lecture on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the Salomon Center for Teaching. All events are open to the public.


PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Brown University will host the 2004 Responsible Leadership Forum, titled “Leadership in a Changing World,” March 11 through 13, 2004.

The conference will open with a keynote lecture on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the Salomon Center for Teaching, located on the College Green. Brown President Ruth J. Simmons will moderate a panel discussion on responsible leadership with Secretary of State Matt Brown, Hasbro CEO Alan Hassenfeld and Rhode Island Foundation Chairman Pablo Rodriguez, M.D.

The conference has been organized by a group of Brown students, with the support of the faculty and administration, to address the challenges facing today’s leaders. It is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Dean of the College and the Office of Campus Life, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Program, the Undergraduate Council of Students and the Public and Private Sector Organizations undergraduate program.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • Thursday, March 11
    7 p.m., Salomon Center for Teaching – Keynote lecture on “Responsible Leadership”
    Moderated by Brown President Ruth J. Simmons, with panelists Matt Brown, R.I. Secretary of State; Alan Hassenfeld, CEO of Hasbro; and Pablo Rodriguez, Chairman of R.I. Foundation
  • Friday, March 14
    8 p.m., Salomon Center for Teaching – Benefit concert for Progresso Latino
    Performances by Mezcla, Swing, Break Dancing, WORD, Tan Soo Do and more. $3.
  • Saturday, March 15
    10 a.m., Leung Gallery, Faunce Hall – Leadership Conference: “Contemporary Issues and Tools for Social Change”

    12:30 p.m., Leung Gallery, Faunce Hall – Closing keynote panel discussion
    Professor Frank Newman, former President of URI, and Jorge Klor de Alva, CEO and former President of University of Phoenix
