Howard Foundation Names Twelve 2007-08 Fellows

The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation, administered by Brown University, has announced 12 fellowships for the 2007-08 academic year. The recipients, representing the fields of visual arts, media studies, and the history of art and architecture, will each receive grants of $25,000.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation, administered by Brown University for the Board of Administration of the Howard Foundation, has announced 12 fellowships of $25,000 each for the 2007-08 academic year. The recipients, representing the fields of visual arts, media studies, and the history of art and architecture, were selected from among 237 scholars and artists nominated by administrative officers of colleges, universities and cultural institutions throughout the country.

The 2007-08 fellows in visual arts and media studies are:

    Project: Priceless: The History and Politics of Historic Preservation

The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation was established in 1952 by Nicea Howard in memory of her grandparents. Its stated purpose is to aid the personal development of promising individuals at the crucial middle stages of their careers. The Foundation awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in fields selected on a rotation of topics. The Board of Administration announced that fellowships in 2008-09 will be awarded in the fields of music, playwriting, and theater studies.
