Professor of Medicine Josiah Rich, who has studied hepatitis C outbreaks in prisons, notes that convicted criminals are almost always willing to be tested for hepatitis C, but will often lie to authorities about their past drug use. He suggests that all prisoners be tested for hepatitis C. Lynn Taylor, assistant professor of medicine (research), adds that prisons offer an opportunity for treatment of the disease.
