Number of students transferring from community colleges to elite institutions plunges Selective four-year colleges enroll a smaller percentage of transfer students than they did 20 years ago, despite the growing number of students who start their postsecondary education at community colleges, according to a report on a national study released on Monday by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. The report's release comes at a time when education leaders and policy makers, including the federal Commission on the Future of Higher Education, increasingly are focused on fostering socioeconomic diversity at the nation's most selective colleges.
