Brown defeated the physically strong Providence RFC 41-17 in convincing fashion as the
backline showed signs of solid improvement over the previous two weeks, scoring 7 of the 8
Brown tries. Brown's early season record is now 3-0. Brown's forward dominance in its first two
matches was neutralized to some degree by Providence, with the exception of a strong lineout
drive that put flanker Zach Long'14 over for a try. However, the backs which had been only
marginally effective against both Bentley and New London broke out with a dominant offensive
and defensive performance. The team seems to be peaking as it prepares to head off on spring
tour to Ireland for a week on Thursday, March 22. This 80 minute match was played on the
artificial turf behind the OMAC and posts were in place to allow penalty kicks and conversions.

Brown took the match to Providence from the kick-off, with wing James McGinn'12 and out half
Zahid Jethani'13 scoring and converting respectively in the 6th minute. A defensive let down a
minute later gave Providence their only score of the first half and then Brown dominated for the
next 60 minutes. This was a true team effort as the forwards took their share of hard won scrum
and lineout possessions with the backs attacking aggressively, creating open running lanes which
lead to many long runs. Wings McGinn and Dan Tonderys ran in some nice tries but the hard
work inside by centers Taylor Peak'12 and Dow Travers'12 as well as lock Landon Turley'12

created the space to attack. Halfbacks Matt Leonard'14 and Jethani did a solid job of reading the
options and delivering the ball to the open man.

The second half was decided quite early as McGinn scored twice, both converted, in the first
7 minutes of the half. Brown was ahead 41-5 late in the game but gave up two tries to allow
Providence 12 second half points.
