STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
- We are a Pan-Buddhist group that tries to bring in the teachings from all major Buddhist sects. We welcome all Buddhists and non-Buddhists to come learn about what Buddhism is about, learn about difference types of meditation, see how Buddhist practices can help one deal with life's daily stress and complexities, see and talk with visiting monks, and watch movies with Buddhist themes.
- Brown Hindu Group is primarily a religious organization. We have weekly meetings and basically shape our discourses on student interest and input. We have had scripture reading, interfaith dialogue, as well as guest lecturers on topics such as yoga and Carnatic music. We have also worked in conjunction with other organizations such as the Brown Muslim Student Association, the Chaplains Office, and SASA. Our biggest events tend to be Holi and Diwali- during which we organize the religious ceremonies. The Brown Hindu Group functions and weekly meetings are open to all.
- The Brown Muslim Student Association is dedicated to addressing the needs and interests of the Muslim Community at Brown. Additionally, we aim to increase awareness of Islam among the Brown community and beyond. Jumah prayers and general body meetings are held weekly at the Muslim Student Center. All are welcome.
- The Pakistani Society At Brown (PSAB) gives the Pakistani students and anyone else interested in Pakistan, on-campus, an organizational identity to achieve certain small-scale goals, such as: offering the Pakistani perspective to various cultural, and international student groups at Brown, through various forums, lectures and cultural events; building contacts with Brown Pakistani alumni and with Pakistani student groups at other colleges and universities; raising awareness about Brown back in Pakistan so that more students apply to the University; fundraising for Brown's Pakistani scholarship endowment fund; fundraising for a particular charity in Pakistan.
- The Brown University South Asian Students' Association (SASA) embraces South Asian and South Asian American culture and identity within the contexts of the Third World community, the university campus, and the greater global community. We celebrate the diversity of South Asian culture while exploring the facets of a pluralistic identity. We hope to build a community that is shaped by the varied social, cultural, and political concerns of South Asians on this campus. We encourage everyone, regardless of ethnic background, to take an active role in our events and activities.
- South Asian Women's Collective is an organization that serves the needs of South Asian women on Brown's campus. The group is a safe space for women to get together and discuss issues relevant to them. Events include book discussions, collaborations, political conversations, and conversations about identity.
