Community Carbon Use Reduction at Brown (CCURB)
President Ruth Simmons and the Sidney E. Frank Foundation have committed a total of $300,000
to support of projects lead by students, staff and faculty
designed to reduce carbon emissions in the greater Providence area. The projects are intended to complement the work that Facilities Management is doing on campus to reduce Brown’s own carbon footprint. Since the commitments were announced, a group of faculty, students and staff developed the specifics of the program which is being called CCURB – Community Carbon Use Reduction at Brown.
Each community-based project addresses the following goals:
- Provide vibrant opportunities for learning for all those involved
- Engage non-university groups in thinking about how to increase the sustainability of the greater Providence area and its neighborhoods in a way that is responsive to the needs of the community
- Lead to a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
