COURSEDESCRIPTION
Prof. Brian W. Sheldon and Prof. Sharvan Kumar
EN41 is designed to provide all
Engineering students with an introduction to Materials Science
and Engineering.
In this course we will consider a wide range of materials, their
properties, and the processing routes used to fabricate them.
Topics of study will include:
atomic bonding
crystal structure
diffusion in solids
defects in crystals
mechanical behavior of materials
phase diagrams and their utilization
heat treatment of metals and alloys
electrical, optical, and magnetic properties of materials
materials processing for metals, ceramics, semiconductors, and polymers
We will be using WebCT to
distribute course materials and for course management. To acess
this
site, you must be registered for the course. To login you will
need your AuthID (formerly shortID) and your network password.
