If eyes are indeed the window to the soul, then are Pinocchio’s expressive eyes proof that he has a soul? Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that eyes with the ability to communicate feelings to other eyes are windows to a soul. In this case, Pinocchio’s eyes communicate with Geppetto. The proof is that he becomes angry with a puppet: he is insensed by Pinocchio’s eyes because he deems them to be “spiteful.” They elicit an abonormal reaction in him.
