"Between the two palaces" : The central section of the main north-south street in Cairo. It is located, as its name suggests, between the two palaces of the city, and it served as a ceremonial ground, the setting for parades and processions, allowing large groups of people to gather for festivals and other major occasions. Both the Ayyubids and Bahri Mamluks invested in several building projects in this area. It currently functions as a marketplace.
