Harrison Stark: Badr al-Jamali (1066-1121) was a Fatimid vizier who seized power from the Caliph in Cairo at a time of immense crisis and put Egypt under military rule, with the Caliphate in tutelage. The first to introduce the iqta, he is credited with restoring order to floundering Fatimid rule, postponing the demise of the dynasty for roughly a century.
