Sabrina Ergun: Karaite Judaism or Karaism is a Jewish movement that was founded by Anan Ben David around the 9th century CE. Karaism recognizes the Tanakh alone as the supreme legal authority. This differs greatly from Rabbinic Judaism, which considers the Oral law to be authoritative interpretations of the Torah.

ian: How does this distinction play out in Egypt? could they still be part of a more unified Jewish community as conceived by the Muslim state? In fact of the Jewish groups members of this sect were more likely to courtiers to the Fatimids and other ruling dynasties.
