November 19: So far, the brick pieces have been sorted into paper bags according to trench and SU and counted. Check back after next class for more specific research such as drawings, measurements, etc!

November 26-30: This week I have been working on examining bricks worthy of closer study, weighing the pieces of bricks, drawing, and taking photographs. Here are the weight measurements for the brick pieces from each SU.

SR stands for sod removal. Some SUs are absent because there were no pieces of brick found in those layers.

Week of Dec. 10

Using some of the pipe stem dates, I have been able to put some of the samples in a somewhat narrow date range. Since D2 SU7 was dated between 1750 and 1800, it is possible that the samples from D2 SU8 come from around this same date or perhaps a bit lower since SU8 is located beneath SU7. Interestingly, last year it was found that in trench B2 50 to 60 cm down were pipe fragments found that dated to about 1680-1720. Since trench B2 was very close in proximity to D2 and since D2 SU8 was about 50 to 65 cm down as well, it is possible that these layers could be closely related in date. So, perhaps D2 SU8 can be dated between 1680 and 1750 or 1800. Also, since D1 SU6 dates to 1720-1750 using the pipe stem dates, the samples from D1 SU8 might also date to around this time or perhaps a bit earlier. However, D1 SU8 also begins at 50 cm below the surface, so it is interesting that this layer may correlate with D2 SU8 despite the pipe stem dates.
