Every era of Providence's shared memory is demonstrated in present-day India Point Park. The park stores these generations of memory - some painful, some prosperous - and is now a site ripe for the creation of new memories. Though not an intentional "memorial" to any particular historical event or group of people, the landscape, built elements, artwork and even garbage of India Point Park serve as indirect monuments to Providence's shared memory, as well as the memories from individual lives that have crossed over the terrain of India Point.

My experience of the park as a site of memory is best expressed by the words on an introductory sign to the park, as shown on the front page of this project: "Take care of it and it will serve you well." India Point is worth enjoying, experiencing and preserving - even for college students who are short-term residents. Another urban philosopher, perhaps inspired by the odd beauty and rich history of the park, expressed this sentiment in a different way on the top of a park picnic table. I'll leave you with his or her message:
