The purpose of this project was to illustrate the benefits of two different methods of digital image presentations through the use of the Simpleviewer and Zoomify flash programs

Guinness Moments Simpleviewer
Pro: The Simpleviewer gallery provides a means of displaying individual images while really showing off their existence within a series of images. This is particularly useful when a subject involves progress over time, as does the project in this example.
Con: This is a fairly static medium, however, in that it does not allow much interaction with the images.

Guinness Moments Zoomify
Pro: Zoomify, on the other hand, provides a means of getting very up close and personal with the subjects of those images. In this instance, deep zooming allows the viewer to begin to see all the very minor alterations happening on the inside and the outside of a pint glass over the course of a single drink - alterations that would not necessarily be visible to the naked eye.
Con: For convenient viewing of Zoomify images, the viewing area has to be rather large, taking up a significant portion of the screen at once. This makes it difficult to conceptualize a series of images as such.

These two presentation media are excellent when paired together, especially for the purpose of displaying this collection of images, because each medium's strength is the weakness of the other. They complement each other perfectly.

chris witmore: Well done Michelle. I am glad to see the reflection on differences in media as modes of engagement with the drinking of a Guinness. You must link this in to the Virtual Pub Project.
