The Etruscans play a pivotal role in the Mediterranean by engaging in contact with the Greeks and Phoenicians during the Orientalizing and Archaic periods, and eventually creating the foundations of Rome. This course aims to create a specific understanding of the Etruscans as a culture in their own right, and to create a broader context of cultural interaction between largely the Greek world and central Italy from the eighth to fourth centuries BC.
