After class Wednesday I thought I should create a page on the wiki where we can all share movies/books/etc that are either intentionally or unintentionally hilarious about the ancient world. Who knows - maybe we can organize a popcorn and movie night midway through the semester and watch one of these together. - Prof. Bestock

Prof. B: A classic bad movie (in a very 60s way): A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum. It's a Stephen Sondheim musical.

Laura Berman: I mentioned this one briefly in class-- The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412915/). It's a wonderful/terrible made-for-TV movie in which a dorky academic gets a job at a super-secret archive of mythological artifacts (a la the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark) and goes on an Indie-esque quest.

ConnorHilton: One of my all time favorite movies (although it is rather bad) is called The Mummy. There is also a sequel called The Mummy Returns.

Soleil Vaughn: Of course, there's Indiana Jones! I love those movies :) Even if archaeologists aren't exactly like that.

Chase Shaffar-Roggeveen: Timeline (2003) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300556/
The movie surrounds a group of archeologists (and students) that wind up getting sucked into the past by the company funding their dig. It even contains elements we have discussed in class such as: carbon dating, site contamination, and excavation processes. The level of inaccuracy keeps it humorous.
