#ian: What time period was he writing? IMpact on the Muslim world and the West? He is often called the first sociologist for his methodology.

Madeline: Ibn Khaldun wrote during the Medieval era of the Islamic Empire. His work has been a significant contribution to scholarly studies of the Ancient Islamic World in that Ibn Khaldun attempted to create historical commentaries without bias. His work was also based on sociological and philosophical observations and for that reason his work not only sheds light on the systemic aspects of the ancient islamic world, but it also provides descriptions of the culture's subjectivity and sense of identity.
