The Sira are the prophetic biographies. In addition to what is written in the Quran and Hadith, the sira also provide information on Muhammed's life and the early period of Islam. The sira were not written during the lifetime of the Prophet and it can be argued that a coherent image of Muhammad cannot be formed from the literature of sira as discrepencies exist between different narrations found in sira works and between sira and non-Muslim sources.
