Laila: The umma refers to the self-identified and unified group of Muslims. It is the Muslim community/congregation. The concept of umma is first seen when they move to Medina under the reign of Abdul Malik.
Steph: Originates from the phrase Ummah Wahida in the Quran which means the "one community" and refers to a united Islamic world.
