Images from JIAAW basement exploration
This is the famous painting by Breughal c.1569 entitled Construction on the Tower of Babel. It is currently in Vienna at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. There is much that can be said of it in light of the ideas of Smith and Eliade, but I will leave it to you all to add some comments. My only note woudl be to consider the ways in which sacred places are dynamic and always in the process of construction. What it reminds us is that there is always a sense of the incomplete that accompanies our relationship to such places.
