Resource Guide for judges and justice staff will:

• Identify the unique role that judge and court personnel play in addressing problems associated with alcohol and other drug abuse.
• Provide a basic understanding of the nature of substance abuse, addiction, and recovery; an understanding of the role of relapse; and a broad spectrum of treatment modalities.
• Provide judges and judicial staff with resources and strategies that can be used in the courtroom to more effectively address individuals with substance abuse problems.
• Encourage judges to initiate and engage in on-going dialogues with other judges, lawyers, physicians, and interested community leaders regarding substance abuse issues and problem-solving approaches in the justice system.
