Dr. Akelman is a graduate of Princeton University and Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his internship, residency, and spine fellowship at Yale University, and a hand fellowship from Roosevelt Hospital. Dr. Akelman is the President-Elect for the New England Hand Society and the Rhode Island Orthopaedic Society. He is Chairman of the Scientific and Commercial Exhibits Committee for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and heads the committee responsible for the implementation and planning of the resident core curriculum for the department. His research interests include regeneration of peripheral nerve and inhibition of flexor tendon adhesion formation.
