Research Summary:
The Butler Hospital Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Body Image Program is a nationally known clinical and research program for BDD, a relatively common and severe mental disorder. The program is at the cutting edge of clinical research on BDD. Projects include research on psychopathology, longitudinal course, genetics, treatment, visual processing, and other aspects of BDD. A student would be welcome to participate in ongoing projects or to collaborate in analyzing and writing up existing data that would be submitted for publication. Past students have co-authored numerous posters that were presented at national meetings as well as published papers. Potential topics of such a project are body image in BDD, social anxiety and distress in BDD, and self-esteem in BDD. A further description of some of the program's ongoing studies is provided on our website at http://www.butler.org/bdd.html.
