Dr. Trafton joined the Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital faculty in 1984. Previously, he served on the attending staff at San Francisco General Hospital and the University of California San Francisco, where he did his post-graduate training in general and orthopaedic surgery. His academic career has focused on musculoskeletal traumatology. Currently Chair of the AO North America Executive Committee and the American College of Surgeons Rhode Island State Committee on Trauma, he is a past president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. He has directed and taught in numerous trauma educational courses in the United States and abroad, and is one of the four editors of Skeletal Trauma, a comprehensive textbook on musculoskeletal injuries. Dr. Trafton is a graduate of Phillips Academy, Yale University, and Harvard Medical School. His wife and three children have supported the family's becoming enthusiastic Rhode Islanders.
