Notes: A translation, by John Eliot, for the Corporation for Propagation of the Gospel in New England into the Massachuset language, of the Old and New Testaments and the metrical Psalms. First edition of the first Bible printed in the New World, and the first example in history of the translation and printing of the entire Bible in a new language (Massachuset) as a means of evangelism. Cf. Pilling. Printed in two columns. "Wuske Wuttestamentum nul-Lordumun Jesus Christ nuppoquohwussuaeneumun" has separate title page dated 1661, and begins on leaf A1, 2nd grouping. It is a reissue of Wing B2757. The book of John begins new register with 2A1, 3rd grouping. The Psalms of David, which begin on leaf A1, 4th grouping, has caption title: Wame ketoohomae uketoohomaongash David. Rules for Christian living, by John Eliot, has caption title: Noowomoo Wnttinnoowaonk God. JCB copy lacks New testament which is available as a separate work. See Bible. N.T. Massachuset.
