Notes: Chapter VII, “De l’ignorance des Gaspesiens”, relates the author’s invention of a special system of characters devised by the author to produce “kignamotinoer, ou kateguenne” (p. 130; cf. “Oukateguennes kignamatinoër, des Papiers instructifs ŕ prier Dieu”, p. 534), and contains terms for seasons and months (p. 158-160). Chapter VIII, “De la langue des Gaspesiens”, consists primarily of general remarks on usage and pronunciation (p. 160-164). Chapter XXI, “Premier retour de l’Auteur en France, & la harangue que le Chef des Gaspesiens luy a faite ŕ son départ” (p. 518-572) contains vocabulary passim (p. 534, 537, 538, 541, 546-549, 552, 554). First published, Paris, 1691; these are the same sheets with a new title page. Title page of 1691 edition gives Chrestien Le Clercq as author. JCB copy imperfect: disbound and wanting both boards and spine.
