Notes: Text in English and Massachuset languages on facing pages. Title page includes two brief Scripture texts in Massachuset (Eph. 4.5 and Col. 2.5).
First published, Boston, 1680, but without Massachuset content. Grindall Rawson translated this work by order of the Commissioners for Propagation of the Gospel among the Indians. Evans suggests that Rawson may have been assisted in the translation by Samuel Treat of Eastham, Mass.
Epistle Dedicatory to Lieutenant Governor William Stoughton and Reverend Increase Mather, signed by Rawson, appears in English only and gives a brief account of missionary labors among the Indians.
JCB has 2 copies, both imperfect, both wanting English title page and have multiple pages torn, mutilated, repaired, and closely trimmed. Copy 1 includes transcription of English title page reproduced in pen and ink on verso of flyleaf facing Massachuset title page.
